Zinnia Knitalong Starts June 1
Our first summer knitalong features the Zinnia cardigan, a pattern written exclusively for The Fiber Gallery by up-and-coming designer Andi Satterlund. Zinnia, a vintage-inspired sweater with a simple all-over texture stitch and a lace detail at the waist, is knit in Kenzie, a light-worsted weight blend of merino wool, angora, alpaca, silk and nylon. While we’re incredibly excited to head to Imperial Stock Ranch this fall, Imperial Stock will be headed to us on June 7. Jeanne Carver, the incredible force behind the development and growth of Imperial Yarn will be joining us at the shop to tell us the the story of Imperial Yarn. She will be bringing with her a trunk show of beautiful designs made from her wonderful wool (perhaps from the very sheep in the photo above). Don’t forget: The annual Puget Sound Local Yarn Shop Tour starts Thursday and runs through Sunday. This year’s tour includes 25 stores from Kent to the Canadian border. Every store will have extended hours, prize drawings and free, exclusive patterns. In addition to the individual store drawings, there will be $1500 in grand prize opportunities for those who visit multiple stores. Visit eight stores to be eligible to win. We still have several spaces left for our fall retreat at the Imperial Stock Ranch in rural Oregon, but time is running out to register. The retreat will take place October 24-27, and features a day at the ranch to meet the sheep and learn all about the family-run yarn-processing business. It will also feature a day of classes with Bonne Marie Burns, founder and designer at ChicKnits. Participants will stay at a riverside inn with all meals provided. Our featured artist for the 19th annual Phinneywood Art Walk is not only well-regarded for her work with fiber arts — she’s also a customer of ours! Moxie Lieberman’s primary medium is needle felting, but she also expresses ideas with embroidery, cross stitch, crochet, e-textiles and more. Her work has been shown in galleries in Seattle, New York, Los Angeles and more. She’s taught thousands of people to needle felt in dozens of settings, including both the Frye and Bellevue Art Museums, The Exploratorium in SF, and the Maker Faire Bay Area. Moxie’s work will be featured in the store Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 5. Her work will be joined by that of 150 other artists at multiple locations in the area.
