Knitting

Learn to Knit: One 2-hour session. Get an introduction to knitting terms and yarns. Learn the basic knit stitch and get started on your first project. Class fee includes needles and yarn. $30

Knitting Brush-Up: One 2-hour session. Great for beginners who are ready for the next step or lapsed knitters who need a brush-up. Learn purl, ribbing and seed stitches, and discuss different methods of casting on, increasing and decreasing. Buy or bring needles and yarn. $20

My First Socks: Three 2-hour sessions. Learn to knit in the round using traditional double-pointed needles, then turn the heel as you create your first sock. This is a great portable project -- once you start, you'll be hooked.  Buy or bring supplies (list provided at registration) $60

Toe-Up Socks: Two 2-hour sessions. Learn to knit to knit socks that start at the toe. You knit the leg last, so you'll never run out of yarn just before the end. No heel flap, and no Kitchener stitch! Buy or bring supplies (list provided at registration) $40

Socks Extraordinaire: Two 2-hour sessions. Using Cat Bordhi's book New Pathways for Sock Knitters, we'll experiment with cutting-edge sock architecture. Buy or bring supplies (list provided at registration) $40

Saturdays August 2 and 16, 1 to 3 p.m.

 

Child's Sweater: Two 2-hour sessions. This is a great introduction to reading a pattern and knitting from the top down (no seaming required).  Buy or bring supplies (list provided at registration) $40

Saturdays May 31 and June 14, 1 to 3 p.m.

 

Top-Down Tee: Three 2-hour sessions. Knit a cool summer T-shirt out of cotton, bamboo, or hemp while you learn the top-down method.  Buy or bring supplies (list provided at registration) $60

Leaf Lace Shawl: Three 2-hour sessions. This is a perfect first lace-knitting project.  The shawl is deceptively simple and can be knitted in a variety of yarns and gauges.  Buy or bring supplies. List provided at registration. $60.

African Embroidery: One 2-hour session. Make a colorful pillow featuring African designs in chain stitch.  Suitable for kids and adults.  Kit included. $40

Felting

NEW! Surface Embellishment: One 2-hour session. Learn to decorate a purse, a sweater, or a cushion with a needle-felted design. Class fee includes fiber, felting needles, and a foam pad. $35

Sculpting with Felting Needles: One 2-hour session. Create your own three-dimensional objects such as flowers, animals, or dolls using a needle and unspun wool. Or get ready for an upcoming holiday with felted tree ornaments, Easter eggs or pumpkins.  The choices are endless!  Class fee includes fiber, felting needles and foam pad. $35

Rug Hooking

Primitive Rug Hooking: One 2-hour session. Using bulky-weight yarn and a monkscloth backing we'll make a small project. Once you've learned the skill, you can make anything from an heirloom rug to a carpet bag. Hook and supplies for a small project included. $30

Crochet

Crochet Clinic:  Crochet is hot!  In one two-hour session, get an introduction to the basic crochet stitch, learn basic terms and get started on an easy project. Class fee includes crochet hook and yarn. $30

April 13 and 20; May 18 and 25; June 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29; July 13, 20, and 27; August 3, 10, 17, and 24.

Amigurumi: One 2-hour session. Get inspired by the Japanese method shown in the book of the same name and make a set of adorable small animals.  Buy or bring supplies. $20

Spinning

Drop Spindling: Why buy yarn when you can make it yourself, the old-fashioned way! And you don’t need an expensive, bulky wheel. We’ll use beautiful hand-crafted drop spindles and learn the techniques of drawing and spinning to create our own fiber as indigenous cultures around the world have done for centuries. Class includes drop spindle and fiber. One 2-hour session. $45
