Cowls for Chilly Days

Posted on Nov 2, 2011 in Free Patterns

A cowl is warm and cozy on these cooling autumn days. They are quick projects and can often be worked up with just one or two skeins of yarn. We took a look through Ravelry and found a great group of free cowl patterns in knit and crochet.

Fresco Basket Whip Cowl

The Fresco Basket Whip Cowl is soft and snuggly in a light-weight blend of angora, wool and alpaca.

The Honey Cowl is a Ravelry sensation with over 3000 projects. Knit up in one to two skeins of Madelinetosh DK, its simple style highlights the fantastic hand-dyed colorways.

The Gap-tastic Cowl emulates the style of a certain mall retailer. Ravlery knitters are creating it in nearly any type of bulky or chunky yarn you can think of.

The Tuesday Night Cowl is a cloud of soft cables that can be created in three gauges from worsted to chunky.

Try your hand at simple stranded knitting with the Inspira Cowl. Designed to use self-striping yarns, it can also be a great stashbuster.

The Twisted Stitch Neckwarmer combines a luxurious yarn with a simple mock cable pattern for an elegant effect.

Ice Queen

Ice Queen really kicks things up a notch. A delicate confection in a single skein Kidsilk Haze, its lacy surface is dotted with beads.

The Calm Cowl offers over-size comfort and simplicity in a crocheted cowl.

The Black Hole Cowl offers instant gratification. Crocheted in Super Bulky Weight yarn on a size Q hook, you will be sheltered from whatever the fall weather may bring.

Crochet goes lacy with the Cardiff Cowl. This would be a silky dream worked up in Blue Sky Alpacas Alpaca Silk!
