Blue Moon Rising

Join us Thursday through Sunday at the Madrona Fiber Arts Festival at the Hotel Murano in Tacoma. In our booth we’ll be introducing four more yarns from Blue Moon Fiber Arts, maker of the ever-popular Socks That Rock. The yarns will be available at the store from February 16 onward. We think you’ll love them as much as we do. Silky Victoria, a DK yarn, is 85 percent Polworth wool and 15 percent silk. It’s soft and lofty with a touch of shine and excellent stitch definition. Targhee Worsted comes from a domestic sheep breed known for its extra-lofty wool. Raised and milled domestically, this yarn wears exceptionally well. Yaksi Fingering is actually a merino-yak-silk blend. This wonderfully soft, tightly spun wool is excellent for lace knitting. Sookie is an extra-bulky single-ply. It’s light and soft, felts wonderfully and comes in Blue Moon’s signature...

CustomFit Sweater Kickoff

If you’ve ever dreamed of a knitting pattern sized just for you, we’ve got you covered. If you’ve ever wanted to knit that custom sweater along with the support of dozens of other knitters, we’ve got that, too. And if you want to save $5 while doing it, we’re all in. On Sunday, September 21, from 12:30 to 3:30, we’ll be hosting our CustomFit introductory party. You’ll hear all about this novel way to capture your measurements and generate patterns that fit you perfectly. We’ll be joined by a representative from the CustomFit website, which is the brainchild of designer Amy Herzog, author of Fit To Flatter. And staff members will show off the custom sweaters they’ve already knit. During the party you’ll be able to pick from among the dozens of available sweater styles, you’ll be measured by our trained team, and you’ll pick out your yarn and start swatching. OK, swatching is dull. But it’s essential to this process. Your swatch gives you a chance to test drive your fabric. Is it too tight or too loose? Does it have the drape that your perfect sweater requires? Your swatch also allows the software to generate a pattern that is written to your exact gauge. You never have to try to adjust your knitting or your needles to match a gauge because it’s created just for you! In the next few weeks, you’ll return to the store with your washed and blocked swatch, we’ll measure it and we’ll generate your custom pattern. Over the next three months you’ll be able to attend sit-and-knit sessions where you can get help and chat with other knitters. And we’ll wrap up the process with a finale party in April. The charge for our introductory event is $20. If you can’t make the party, you are welcome to make an appointment during store hours for $25. The charge includes measuring and a .pdf file of your pattern. If you love the process (and you will), subsequent CustomFit patterns will cost $10 to generate. You do not need to preregister to join the party. Please note: We expect very high attendance at this event. If you wish to bring a pre-knit and blocked swatch, we will attempt to generate patterns that afternoon, after we have finished measuring the other attendees. This could take several hours. Thanks in advance for your...
