Start with a form-flattering open sweater, add a border that pops with interest, and you have the Fiber Gallery’s fall knitalong, the Sweet Root cardigan. The sweater was designed especially for us by up-and-coming designer Cory Ellen Boberg of indie.knits. A Northwest design deserves Northwest yarn, and so we paired it with Imperial Yarn’s delightful sport-weight Tracie Too. Like Imperial’s other yarns, Tracie Too is spun from the company’s own herd of Columbia sheep raised near the eastern slopes of Mount Hood. It’s light and springy and a delight to knit. The knitalong kicks off on Saturday, September 19, from 4 to 6 p.m. We’ll draw for door prizes while you cast on. Cory and other members of our staff will be here to discuss the...

Read MoreDyeing In The Street
Join us this Saturday, August 8, as we drag our dyepots out into the street and rustle up a few batches of hand-dyed yarn. If you’d like to try dyeing, dress for a mess and come anytime between noon and 5 p.m. Or just show up and watch. In addition to our demo, there will be tons going on all along Greenwood Avenue as part of the the annual Summer Streets celebration. The road will be closed from 65th to 87th streets and you can wander among concerts, performances, and other mini-events on every block. Our parking lot, off of 83rd Street, will still be open. Read MoreA Taste of Fall
It still may be toasty outside, but inside the store we’re getting set up for fall. Cory Ellen Boberg of Indie.Knits is putting the finishing touches on a brand-new design our fall knitalong sweater (more on that coming soon!) Meanwhile, stock arrives almost daily. Yesterday we received a new shipment of Good Company Wares totes and bucket baskets. They’re made in Portland and feature extra-sturdy canvas and leather handles. The day before, we received Villa, a sister yarn to the much-admired Vail, a slinky and soft alpaca-bamboo blend. While Vail is undyed, Villa features deep, saturated colors. A new batch of Malabrigo yarns is on its way, and another shipment of Madelinetosh yarns are in the dyepot right now. We can’t wait to see what comes through the door next week, ready for knitting...
Read MoreNew In The Store
We have lots of exciting new products in the store this summer. In addition to Spincycle yarns (see post below), we have other new yarns. CoBaSi DK is a pretty and practical summer yarn that contains no wool. Its fiber content, as the name implies, includes cotton, bamboo and silk, as well as a little nylon for strength. Just for fun we’ve added Abracadabra (above), a yarn that changes color in the sunlight. Indoors it appears white. Outside it is either pink or purple. Surprise those you meet with a suddenly-striped hat, or knit a summer tank that blooms with the light. For spinners and felters, we now carry a wool/alpaca raw fiber from Blue Sky Alpacas. Also check out our gradient roving from Frabjous Fibers. Lastly, we have a slew of new books and magazines. Come check them...
