Fall Knitalong Starts September 24

Our fall knitalong, Halite, is a universal sweater — it can be knit in any yarn at any gauge to fit any size! The sweater front features a mitered square that creates a diagonal ‘seam.’ It shows off variegated yarns especially well, but also looks great in a solid color. The back and sleeves are knit in a neutral contrasting color. The back features a second design with four miters. The kimono-style sleeves are picked up and knit from the sweater body, and can be knit to any length. Because the sweater can be knit in any weight of yarn, gauge is unimportant. Just pick a needle size appropriate for your yarn and you’re good. The sample front was knit in Silk Garden Sock; the back in Tosh Merino Light. Likewise, the sweater will fit any size. Just take a couple of basic measurements and you’re on your way. No complicated shaping is involved. The knitalong kicks off Saturday, September 24.  More details are in our fall newsletter...

A Sweet Fall Knitalong

Start with a form-flattering open sweater, add a border that pops with interest, and you have the Fiber Gallery’s fall knitalong, the Sweet Root cardigan. The sweater was designed especially for us by up-and-coming designer Cory Ellen Boberg of indie.knits. A Northwest design deserves Northwest yarn, and so we paired it with Imperial Yarn’s delightful sport-weight Tracie Too. Like Imperial’s other yarns, Tracie Too is spun from the company’s own herd of Columbia sheep raised near the eastern slopes of Mount Hood. It’s light and springy and a delight to knit. The knitalong kicks off on Saturday, September 19, from 4 to 6 p.m. We’ll draw for door prizes while you cast on. Cory and other members of our staff will be here to discuss the...

A Taste of Fall

It still may be toasty outside, but inside the store we’re getting set up for fall. Cory Ellen Boberg of Indie.Knits is putting the finishing touches on a brand-new design our fall knitalong sweater (more on that coming soon!) Meanwhile, stock arrives almost daily. Yesterday we received a new shipment of Good Company Wares totes and bucket baskets. They’re made in Portland and feature extra-sturdy canvas and leather handles. The day before, we received Villa, a sister yarn to the much-admired Vail, a slinky and soft alpaca-bamboo blend. While Vail is undyed, Villa features deep, saturated colors. A new batch of Malabrigo yarns is on its way, and another shipment of Madelinetosh yarns are in the dyepot right now. We can’t wait to see what comes through the door next week, ready for knitting...

Robin Knitalong Continues

Our Spring/Summer Knitalong features the versatile and fun to knit Robin Shawl. Portland-based Lee Meredith is the designer of this multicolor project. Our sample features Folio yarn from Berroco, a light and soft blend of rayon and alpaca. The pattern is flexible, however, and you can substitute any DK-weight yarn or even your own choice of weight. You can make it in three colors or two. And because the shawl is knit from the bottom point upwards, you can knit until your project is the size you want (or until you run out of yarn!) The kickoff party is Saturday, May 2, from 4 to 6. As usual, we’ll have lots of advice at the ready and we’ll draw for door...
