A Taste of Fall
It still may be toasty outside, but inside the store we’re getting set up for fall. Cory Ellen Boberg of Indie.Knits is putting the finishing touches on a brand-new design our fall knitalong sweater (more on that coming soon!) Meanwhile, stock arrives almost daily. Yesterday we received a new shipment of Good Company Wares totes and bucket baskets. They’re made in Portland and feature extra-sturdy canvas and leather handles. The day before, we received Villa, a sister yarn to the much-admired Vail, a slinky and soft alpaca-bamboo blend. While Vail is undyed, Villa features deep, saturated colors. A new batch of Malabrigo yarns is on its way, and another shipment of Madelinetosh yarns are in the dyepot right now. We can’t wait to see what comes through the door next week, ready for knitting...

We’re excited to announce that we’ll soon be carrying Spincycle Yarns! This Bellingham-based company features yarns sourced in the USA. Best of all, they’re spun and dyed locally. The two-woman team that runs Spincycle contracts with a mother-daughter partnership on Camano Island to spin the yarn in their micro-mill. All of their lovely yarns are dyed in the wool, so each is just a little bit unique. To start, we’ll be carrying two Spincycle yarns: Dyed In The Wool, a sport weight, and Knit Fast, Die Young, a deliciously colored and textured bulky. Look for these yarns in early...

What could be better than an original pattern for this week’s LYS Tour? How about an original color? We have both. The Camas Hat, above, is a new design from Cory Ellen Boberg at Indi.Knits that we’re debuting as a freebie during the tour. It’s shown in the Phinney Ridge color of Hazel Knits Cadence. The color was developed by Hazel Knits especially for us during the tour, and we’re thrilled. A complex mix of blue-green tones combines in a delightful teal color. If you’re not much of a knitter, we also have a free crocheted octopus pattern made from Classic Elite Liberty Print. The tour continues through Sunday at The Fiber Gallery and 25 other Western Washington yarn...

Join us Thursday through Sunday at the Madrona Fiber Arts Festival at the Hotel Murano in Tacoma. In our booth we’ll be introducing four more yarns from Blue Moon Fiber Arts, maker of the ever-popular Socks That Rock. The yarns will be available at the store from February 16 onward. We think you’ll love them as much as we do. Silky Victoria, a DK yarn, is 85 percent Polworth wool and 15 percent silk. It’s soft and lofty with a touch of shine and excellent stitch definition. Targhee Worsted comes from a domestic sheep breed known for its extra-lofty wool. Raised and milled domestically, this yarn wears exceptionally well. Yaksi Fingering is actually a merino-yak-silk blend. This wonderfully soft, tightly spun wool is excellent for lace knitting. Sookie is an extra-bulky single-ply. It’s light and soft, felts wonderfully and comes in Blue Moon’s signature...

We decided to make a second sample of our current knitalong sweater, Zinnia. The original is knit in Kenzie, a delicious combination of merino, nylon, alpaca, angora and silk noil. It creates a tweedy fabric with a light haze. For our second model we chose Spud & Chloe Sweater, a superwash wool and organic cotton blend. Sweater creates a smooth, dense fabric. The stitch pattern really leaps out. Both are lovely. If you haven’t joined the knitalong yet it’s never too late. Stop by the shop for a copy of the pattern and see the models in...

Our first summer knitalong features the Zinnia cardigan, a pattern written exclusively for The Fiber Gallery by up-and-coming designer Andi Satterlund. Zinnia, a vintage-inspired sweater with a simple all-over texture stitch and a lace detail at the waist, is knit in Kenzie, a light-worsted weight blend of merino wool, angora, alpaca, silk and nylon. The knitalong begins June 1 with a kickoff party. It concludes September 13, and as usual we’ll have social and project help sessions along the way. Full details are available in...
